Lynn outscores PBA 17-4 in doubleheader sweep

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn defeated Palm Beach Atlantic by scores of 9-3 and 8-1 on Saturday to take the series against its conference foes.
 
Cole Fowler hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs in the opener, as starter Ryan DiMaggio had a quality start (6 IP, 3 ER, 7 SO).
 
In the nightcap, Noah Lucia pitched an immaculate inning to start the game, striking out three batters on the minimum nine pitches while Leon Paulino stole home in the bottom of the frame. Like Fowler in game one, Blake Mayberry hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs.
 
The Fighting Knights are now 20-14 overall and 9-9 in SSC play.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- The Fighting Knights got out of a jam early in the top of the first as the Lynn infield turned a 643 double play to avoid any early damage
- The Lynn offense jumped on top early, utilizing a first-pitch double from Mayberry to spark an early rally
- Fowler found a gap in right field for an RBI single to put Lynn on the board in the first
- PBA answered back in the top of the second with a bang-bang play at home plate to tie things up at 1-1
- The Sailfish took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third, scoring two runs on a triple and an RBI groundout
- Lynn struck back in the bottom of the frame as Mayberry reached home on a Sailfish throwing error
- Fowler came up with a big swing in the bottom of the fourth, blasting a three-run homer over the right field fence to give Lynn back the lead, 5-3
- Paulino reached home plate on a PBA infield miscue in the seventh to go up by three
- DJ Flowers kept the offense moving in the seventh with a well-placed bunt to score Shawn Dougherty for a 7-3 score
- Jesse Robinson capped off the frame with a two-run single to give the Blue and White a 9-3 advantage heading into the eighth
- Nathan Shane closed out the game, allowing no runs through three innings to secure the game one victory
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- DiMaggio went six innings for his third win of the season, fanning seven batters and allowing three runs on three hits
- Shane picked up his SSC-leading seventh save of the season, striking out five in three innings of work
- Fowler blasted his ninth home run of the season to lead the Fighting Knights in the category
- Fowler also leads the Blue and White in RBI with 32 on the year
- Paulino has recorded a hit in nine of his last 10 starts
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Starting pitcher Lucia kicked off the second game in stellar fashion, piecing together an immaculate inning with three strikeouts in just nine pitches
- The Fighting Knight offense picked up where it left off in game one as Paulino doubled to left field, scoring Fowler from second
- Paulino then made his way to third before stealing home for a 2-0 Lynn lead
- The Sailfish struck back on a wild pitch to trim their deficit to one, 2-1
- A couple of singles in the second inning set the stage for a three-run homer from Mayberry to boost Lynn's lead to four, 5-1
- Lynn extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth as Mayberry lined an RBI single through the left side to score Flowers
- Robinson put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth, launching a base hit past the second baseman to give the Fighting Knights a seven-run advantage
- Pitcher Sebastian Beimel closed out the game in the top of the ninth to complete the doubleheader sweep
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Lucia's pitching line: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 5 SO
- Reliever Justyn Hart pitched two shutout innings and Beimel struck out two batters in the ninth inning
- Mayberry had a season-high four RBI
- Robinson had two RBI in each game of the doubleheader
- Zayas recorded his fifth multi-hit game of the year

- The Fighting Knights will face PBA for a fifth time this season for a non-conference road game on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:00 pm
