Blue and White bats catch fire in series sweep of PBA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Lynn University softball team put together a string of impressive offensive outings to complete a three-game series at Palm Beach Atlantic, Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights combined for 24 hits in Saturday's doubleheader including three doubles and three home runs. Lynn defeated the Sailfish 11-3 in the opener before closing out the series with a 7-4 victory.
 
Lynn improved to 17-21 on the season and 3-15 in Sunshine State Conference play
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- The Fighting Knights jumped out to an early lead as Aun'Yale Howard reached home on a PBA muffed throw, 1-0
- Onnalee Floriano continued the offensive barrage in the first with an RBI single to give Lynn a 2-0 lead by the end of the frame
- PBA answered back in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to cut into the Blue and White's early lead, 2-1
- Anabel O'Donnell lined a base knock through the left side to give Lynn back its two-run lead in the third, 3-1
- The Blue and White took advantage of a pair of PBA miscues in the fourth as Howard reached home on a Sailfish throwing error, 4-1
- Kyleigh Hope added onto the Fighting Knight lead with a 2-RBI single in the top of the fifth to go up 6-1 by the end of the half-inning
- Kyra Sunga added on a solo home run in the top of the sixth to give the Blue and White a 7-1 cushion in the blink of an eye
- The Fighting Knights kept the home runs flowing in the sixth as Teagan Riley blasted a two-run shot to boost Lynn's lead to eight, 9-1
- Marina Goins kept the offense rolling along in the sixth, knocking in another run on an RBI single as the Fighting Knights led 10-1 by the end of the frame
- PBA held off the run-rule in the sixth, plating two runs to cut into Lynn's lead, 10-3
- The Fighting Knights added a run in the seventh on a double steal from Howard and O'Donnell, 11-3
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Pitcher Gabriella Lindsey picked up her fifth win of the season, going the distance with seven strikeouts and just three runs allowed
- Riley leads the team in home runs, blasting her fourth of the season on Saturday
- Sunga cracked her first home run in a Blue and White uniform
- Sunga currently leads the Fighting Knights in extra-base hits with 16 on the year
- Six Fighting Knights recorded multi-hit contests
- Every starter recorded a hit in the win
-Howard swiped three stolen bases as Lynn combined for eight stolen bases as a team
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- After a quiet two innings, the Lynn bats got hot once again striking for six runs on four hits in the top of the third
- Howard picked up the first run on a throwing error by the Sailfish before O'Donnell laid down a sacrifice bunt to score another, 2-0
- Cameron Buzzell then laced a single up the middle to score another and give Lynn a 3-0 lead
- Teagan Riley capped off the inning with a three-run shot to put the Fighting Knights up 6-0 in the blink of an eye
- Floriano added another run in the fourth on a single sliced down the left field line to put Lynn up 7-0
- PBA got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on a sacrifice fly to cut the Fighting Knight lead to six, 7-1
- The Sailfish responded later in the sixth inning, racking up three runs on three hits including a home run to cut Lynn's lead to three, 7-4
- Pitcher Kayley Zazzali and the Lynn defense held the line in the bottom of the seventh, forcing a massive double play to end the game in favor of the Blue and White
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: (Game 2):
- Prickett went three innings, allowing no runs and just one hit with three walks and a strikeout
- Zazzali closed out the game, going four innings while allowing four runs on seven hits
- Howard swiped two bags, bringing her season total to 30
- She currently ranks fifth in the SSC in stolen bases
- Howard also extended her hitting streak to eight games
- Riley finished the weekend with two homers, bringing her season total to five

UP NEXT:
- The Fighting Knights are set to square off with Embry-Riddle in a three-game conference series, kicking off on Friday, Apr. 11 at 6:00 p.m.
