Late-game heroics propel Fighting Knights past No. 20 Florida Tech

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Down 11-9 with 10 minutes remaining, sixth-ranked Lynn rallied for four-straight goals to overcome No. 20 Florida Tech in a 13-11 thriller. The Fighting Knights were led by late-game hero Rebecca Clark, who was credited with four goals and three assists in the tight victory.
 
With the win, Lynn improved to 14-1 overall and 4-1 in Sunshine State Conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Florida Tech opened the game with a goal scored in the first two minutes of play to take an early 1-0 lead
- The Panthers grew their lead with a goal scored at the half-way point of the first quarter, 2-0
- Hannah Exley broke up the Lynn offensive stalemate with a goal from Elizabeth Clagett in the final minute of the opening period, 2-1
- Florida Tech responded with a free-position goal in the closing seconds of the first to retake its two-goal lead
- The Blue and White quickly answered back as Clark found Angelia Huggins for her first goal of the afternoon at the start of the second, 3-2
- Clark then delivered a timely strike of her own to knot the game up at 3-3 with 10 minutes until half-time
- With the Lynn offense finding its groove, Olivia Fox, Kristyn Johnson and Clark all found the back of the net to give the Fighting Knights a 6-3 lead as the clock trickled down
-Florida Tech got the last word in the second quarter with a goal scored at the two-minute mark to make the contest a two-goal affair, 6-4
- The Fighting Knights picked up where they left off at the start of the third as Huggins connected on a shot from Clagett to put Lynn back up by three, 7-4
- The Panthers quickly struck back with a free-position goal that was nullified by a free-position goal from Huggins for her third goal of the game, 8-5
- Florida Tech rallied for five-straight goals stretching from the end of the third into the beginning of the fourth to take a 10-8 lead
- Clark delivered a strike from Johnson to make it a one-goal game
- The Panthers quickly made it a two-goal contest once again with a goal scored off a draw control, 11-9
- Clark then won a draw control before finding Fox for her second goal of the afternoon, 11-10
- Just a minute later, Huggins found Clagett on a mad dash to the goal as Lynn tied the game up at 11-11
- With the momentum shifting towards the Blue and White, the dynamic duo of Johnson and Clark both delivered the final blows to put Lynn up 13-11 in the blink of an eye
- With Florida Tech looking to answer, Clark forced one last turnover to seal the game in favor of the Fighting Knights, 13-11
 
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Clark has scored four or more goals in three of her last four starts
- She currently ranks fourth in the SSC in both goals (46) and assists (30)
- She also leads the conference in ground balls (56) and caused turnovers (39) by a large margin
- Emily Solomon also came up big defensively for the Fighting Knights, causing four turnovers and picking up two ground balls
- Huggins has connected on two or more goals in five of her last six games
- She also set a career-high in both caused turnovers and ground balls with three apiece
- Johnson has scored two or more goals in all but two games this season, she currently has a SSC-best 65
- Goalkeeper Ava Ceglia picked up her 13th win of the season with seven saves in the contest
