Brunelli’s historic 13 saves highlight Lynn’s hard-fought 1-0 loss to Flagler

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Brunelli delivered a career performance with 13 saves, including a second-half penalty kick stop, but the Lynn University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Flagler on Wednesday evening at Bobby Campbell Stadium. The Fighting Knights fell to 1-2-2 on the season, heading into Sunshine State Conference play this weekend.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Flagler tested Lynn early with a 5th-minute shot on target, but Brunelli made the save
- Brisa Sastre recorded Lynn's first shot in the 11th minute, sending her attempt off target
- The Saints earned consecutive corner kicks in the 11th and 12th minutes but couldn't capitalize
-  Brunelli stopped a low attempt from Flagler's Ashley Wagner in the 22nd minute to keep the match level
- Juliana Torres had a shot blocked in the 26th minute for Lynn's best look of the half
- Flagler's Grace Simon was shown a yellow card in the 29th minute for unsporting behavior
- Brunelli came up big again just before the half, denying a shot from the center of the box
- Both teams went into the break tied 0-0 before Lynn received a team yellow card for time wasting
- The Saints opened the second-half pressure with a 47th-minute shot on frame, but Brunelli handled it cleanly
- Torres was shown a yellow card in the 48th minute for unsporting behavior
- Lynn responded with a flurry of chances in the 53rd minute, as Tyler Vance and Sastre had shots blocked before K'La Barnes-Blackwood sent one just wide
- Brunelli denied multiple Flagler attempts between the 61st and 64th minutes
- Payton Kaiser nearly put Lynn on the board in the 71st minute, forcing a save from the Saints after a Fighting Knights corner
- In the 74th minute, Brunelli came up big once again, saving a penalty kick before turning away a follow-up shot to keep the match level
- Flagler finally broke through in the 76th minute to take a late 1-0 lead
- Brunelli added another stop in the 77th minute to prevent further damage
- Lynn earned a late corner in the 80th minute but couldn't convert
- The Fighting Knights pressed forward in the final minutes but couldn't find an equalizer, as Brunelli closed her night with another save in the 90th minute before Flagler saw out the 1-0 win
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Brunelli tallied 13 saves, tying for the fifth most in Lynn history with Maegan Vondal who recorded 13 against Barry in 2004
- Brunelli made 10 saves in the second half alone, including the penalty kick and multiple close-range stops to keep Lynn within striking distance
- Despite being outshot 22-6, Lynn limited Flagler to just one goal and turned away a penalty kick
- Six different Fighting Knights registered shots, showing a spread-out attack, Payton Kaiser had Lynn's lone shot on goal
- The Blue and White earned four corner kicks compared to Flagler's seven
- Lynn was whistled for nine fouls and picked up three yellow cards (team at 45:00, Juliana Torres at 47:38, Arianna Kinsley at 82:15)
- A total of 20 Fighting Knights saw playing time

The Fighting Knights will head to Lakeland for the first SSC matchup of the season, taking on Florida Southern on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
