Tars use early surge to take game one over Fighting Knights

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn University softball team was unable to recover from an early deficit on Friday afternoon, as Rollins used a pair of big innings to secure a 9-0 victory in game one of the Sunshine State Conference series. Despite limiting the Tars over the final two frames, the Fighting Knights struggled to generate offense, finishing with just two hits on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Rollins struck first in the opening inning, using a walk, stolen base and RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead
- Lynn threatened in the bottom half with a pair of baserunners, but a pop out ended the inning and kept the deficit at one
- The Tars broke the game open in the second, capitalizing on a triple, a Lynn error and multiple RBI hits to plate four runs and extend the lead to 5-0
- The Fighting Knights put a runner on in their half of the inning, but a double play erased the opportunity
- Rollins continued to apply pressure in the third, scoring four more runs behind timely hitting, including a triple and multiple RBI singles to push the advantage to 9-0
- The Tars threatened again in the fourth with two hits, but the Lynn defense worked out of the inning to prevent further damage
- In the bottom half, the Fighting Knights reached via an error and moved a runner into scoring position, but were unable to break through
- Rollins added a baserunner in the fifth but Lynn's pitching and defense held them scoreless for the second straight inning
- Lynn went down in order in the bottom of the fifth, as the Tars secured the 9-0 game one victory
