Fighting Knights come up just short in 5-4 battle with Post

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Despite an 11-hit offensive effort and a late push to close within one run, the Lynn University baseball team fell just short against Post, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon at the Lynn Baseball Field. The Fighting Knights jumped out to an early lead behind RBI hits from Justin Lopez and Joel Tapia-Melo and trimmed the deficit to one in the eighth, but the Eagles held on down the stretch to secure the nonconference victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Mason Tinsley and the Lynn defense got out of the top of first quickly, using a heads-up caught stealing play by Ivan Herrera to keep the game scoreless
- Justin Lopez delivered a lead-off knock to put Lynn on the base path early, quickly loading the bases before a warning track shot kept the game tied at 0-0
- With two outs in the bottom of the second, Jackson Tyer crushed a double to left center field and later crossed home plate on a RBI single from Lopez to put the Fighting Knights up 1-0
- Joel Tapia-Melo added on for the Blue and White in the third, golfing a double to the left side to score Scout Simpson from third, 2-0
- The Eagles stormed ahead in the fourth using a RBI ground out and grand slam to take a commanding 5-2 lead
- The Fighting Knights fought back in the fifth as Amaris Harrison cracked a base knock to score Jason Lashley from second, 5-3
- Lynn's defense shined in the top of the sixth with a timely double play from Simpson and Lopez to keep the game a two-run affair
- The Fighting Knights added another run on a Eagle miscue in the eighth to cut the Post lead to just one heading into the final inning, 5-4
- Simpson opened the ninth inning with a base knock to put Lynn in an advantageous position but Lynn suffered a quick three-outs including a crushing double play to seal it in favor of the Eagles, 5-4
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lopez led the Fighting Knights offensively, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base, collecting one of Lynn's three multi-hit performances.
- Tyer continued his strong day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, helping spark Lynn's offense throughout the game
- Tapia-Melo drove in a run with a key RBI double in the third inning, while also reaching base three times with one hit and two walks
- Harrison delivered an RBI single in the fifth inning, finishing 1-for-4 with a run batted in
- Simpson, Herrera, and Lashley each scored a run as Lynn generated 11 hits and five walks in the contest
- On the bases, the Fighting Knights swiped three stolen bases courtesy of Lopez, Simpson, and Herrera
- Tinsley delivered a solid start on the mound, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two
- Zackary Gonzalez provided strong relief late, working three shutout innings with three strikeouts and just one hit allowed
