Lynn explodes for 20 Goals in win over Quincy

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lynn University men's lacrosse team delivered a dominant offensive performance on Sunday afternoon, defeating Quincy 20-9 at Lewis Stadium.

The Fighting Knights controlled the game after an early deficit and poured in goals throughout the afternoon to improve to 2-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
- Quincy opened the scoring with the first two goals of the contest before Lynn answered quickly 
- Mario Leone sparked the comeback with an unassisted goal at the 11:03 mark of the first quarter, 2-1 Quincy
- Just under a minute later Dom Veratti scored to even the game at 2-2 
- Riley Knox gave the Fighting Knights their first lead with a goal off an assist from Andrew Walker at the 4:05 mark, 3-2
- Ian Evans and Leone each scored one within 41 seconds of each other, 5-2
- Matt Evans capped the six-goal surge with a finish from Mitch Rini, giving Lynn a 6-2 lead to end the first quarter 
- Veratti opened the second quarter scoring just a minute in with his second goal of the day, 7-2
- Michael Evans added his first goal with an assist from Matt Evans to stretch the lead to six, 8-2
- Veratti completed his hat trick midway through the second quarter with a goal assisted by Michael Evans, 9-3
- With 8:34 left in the period Pat Bershefski found Michael Evans for Lynn's 10th goal of the game, 10-3
- Cale Maguire added an unassisted goal late in the half to help Lynn take an 11-4 advantage into halftime 
- In the third quarter Cutter and Michael Evans scored back-to-back goals to create an eight goal cushion for the Blue and White, 13-5
- Evans then tallied again on an unassisted strike to continue Lynn's offensive surge
- Leone scored a man-up goal within the final minute of the third quarter off a pass from Veratti to make it 15-6 heading into the fourth 
- Michael Evans opened the fourth quarter with another goal to extend the lead 
- Rini scored back-to-back unassisted goals just 15 seconds apart to push the margin further, 18-7
- Sean Carroll added an unassisted tally midway through the quarter
- Knox recorded his second goal of the day at the 4:22 mark off an assist from Jake Horowitz
- Lynn closed out the contest with a commanding 20-9 victory
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: 
- Michael Evans led the offense with five goals and one assist for six points 
- Veratti and Mario Leone each recorded three goals and one assist 
- Rini totaled two goals and one assist 
- Knox scored two goals 
- Ian Evans, Cutter, Maguire, Carroll, and Matt Evans each added a goal 
- Reagan Joiner dominated faceoffs, winning 16-of-22 draws and collecting 12 ground balls 
- Hunter Klosterman earned the win in goal with 11 saves, while Ke'Von Day made three saves in relief
- The Fighting Knights finished with an advantage in shots (49-29), while also converting 26-of-26 clearing attempts
