Fighting Knights drop doubleheader at Barry despite strong offensive efforts

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Lynn University softball team showed flashes of offensive firepower but came up short in a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader at Barry, falling 13-5 in five innings in game one before dropping a tightly contested 10-8 decision in game two. The Fighting Knights totaled 14 runs and 18 hits across the two games, highlighted by big performances from Marina Goins and Teagan Riley, but were unable to overcome key innings from the Buccaneers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game #1):
- Both sides went quietly in the opening frame, as Lynn was retired in order and the Fighting Knights defense worked around a walk to keep Barry off the board early
- Lynn struck first in the second, as Aiyana Hicks singled and stole second before Marina Goins drove her in with an RBI single; the rally continued with multiple hits, capped by an RBI single from Kyleigh Hope to make it 2-0
- Barry responded in the bottom half with a two-run home run and continued to apply pressure, adding two more runs on extra-base hits and an infield single to take a 4-2 lead
- Lynn answered in the third, taking advantage of a Barry error and timely hitting as Quinn McFadden delivered a two-RBI single to even the game at 4-4
- Barry regained control in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on multiple hits, a walk, and a Lynn error to plate four runs and move back in front 8-4
- The Fighting Knights were held scoreless in the fourth, while Barry extended its lead in the bottom half with a two-run double and additional run-scoring plays to stretch the advantage
- Lynn threatened again in the fifth, highlighted by a triple from Hicks and multiple hits, with McFadden driving in a run to cut into the deficit
- Barry closed out the contest via run rule in the fifth inning, securing the win over Lynn 13-5
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game #1):
- Hicks led the way offensively, going 2-for-2 with a triple and scoring a team-high two runs
- Goins turned in a big day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored
- Kylee Dodson added a perfect 2-for-2 performance and drew a walk, reaching base in all three plate appearances
- McFadden drove in a game-high three runs, delivering a key two-RBI single during Lynn's third-inning rally
- Hope chipped in with an RBI and a hit, contributing to Lynn's early offensive push
- Willis reached base twice, recording a hit and a walk while helping keep innings alive
- The Fighting Knights totaled nine hits and five runs, with five different players recording at least one hit
- In the circle, Savannah Ellis logged 3.2 innings, while Kayley Zazzali provided scoreless relief to close out the game

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game #2):
- Lynn came out aggressive in the first, loading the bases with three walks before Marina Goins delivered a clutch three-RBI double down the line to give the Fighting Knights an early 3-0 lead
- Barry answered in the bottom half, capitalizing on a Lynn error and a sacrifice fly to plate an unearned run and cut the deficit to 3-1
- The Fighting Knights added on in the second, taking advantage of a Barry error as Kyleigh Hope ripped an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1
- Barry responded again in the bottom of the second with a solo home run, while stranding multiple runners to keep the score within reach at 4-2
- Lynn continued to apply pressure in the third, as Teagan Riley singled and came around to score on an RBI double from Goins to push the advantage to 5-2
- Barry threatened in the third by loading the bases, but Lynn's pitching staff worked out of the jam to keep the lead intact
- The Fighting Knights added two more in the fourth, taking advantage of wild pitches and an RBI double from Riley to extend the lead to 7-2
- Barry responded in the bottom half with a three-run inning on timely hitting and walks, trimming the Lynn lead to 7-5
- Lynn manufactured another run in the fifth, as Goins walked, advanced on a bunt and stolen base, and scored on a Cara Willis RBI groundout to make it 8-5
- Barry flipped the game in the bottom of the fifth, stringing together four hits, including back-to-back RBI doubles, before a three-run home run to center capped a five-run inning and gave the Buccaneers a 10-8 lead
- Lynn looked to respond in the sixth, loading the bases with two hits and a walk, but Barry worked out of the jam to keep the Fighting Knights off the board
- The Lynn pitching staff bounced back in the bottom of the sixth, retiring Barry in order to keep the deficit at two heading into the final frame
- In the seventh, Cara Willis reached on an infield single, but Lynn was unable to string together a rally as Barry recorded the final outs
- Barry held on late to secure the 10-8 game three victory over Lynn
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game #2):
- Goins powered the offense, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and a game-high four RBI, including a bases-clearing double in the first inning
- Riley delivered a perfect day at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored
- Hope reached base three times, scoring two runs while adding an RBI and two walks at the top of the lineup
- Savannah Ellis was a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice bunt, setting the tone early for Lynn offensively
- Lynn showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks and placing consistent pressure on Barry pitching
- The Fighting Knights recorded nine hits and scored eight runs, with multiple players contributing to early scoring bursts
- Lynn collected three extra-base hits, all doubles, accounting for five of the team's RBI
- Willis added an RBI and a hit, while Kaela Santiago and Quinn Lockhart each scored a run in key situations
- In the circle, Kayley Zazzali struck out three over 3.2 innings, while Gabriella Lindsey added relief work with one strikeout
