BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn University baseball team honored 15 of its seniors and graduate students on Senior Day before dropping a pair of tightly contested games to Saint Leo, falling 2-1 in game one and 8-4 in the series finale. The Fighting Knights were competitive throughout the afternoon, highlighted by a strong pitching performance and a four-hit day from
Justin Lopez in the opener and a three-home run effort in game two, but were unable to capitalize in key moments as the Lions secured the sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game #1):
- Both teams traded scoreless innings early, with Lynn and Saint Leo each going quietly through the first two frames
- Saint Leo broke through in the third, capitalizing on a throwing error and a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead
- The Fighting Knights answered immediately in the bottom half, as
Bruce Thornton singled and later scored on an RBI single from
Justin Lopez to even the game at 1-1
- The Lions regained the lead in the fifth, using a double and two wild pitches to plate a run and move ahead 2-1
- Lynn threatened in the fifth, loading the bases with three singles, but a lineout double play ended the inning and kept the deficit at one
- Both pitching staffs settled in late, with Lynn holding Saint Leo scoreless from the sixth through the ninth to stay within striking distance
- The Fighting Knights had chances in the seventh with runners on the corners, but a double play erased the opportunity
- Lynn was retired in order in the ninth, sealing the narrow 2-1 loss in game two of the series

- Lynn got on the board first in the second inning as
Joel Tapia-Melo and
Jackson Tyer launched back-to-back solo home runs to give the Fighting Knights a 2-0 lead
- Saint Leo answered in the fourth, stringing together five hits and taking advantage of a Lynn error to plate five runs and swing the momentum to a 5-2 lead
- The Fighting Knights responded in the bottom half, as
Scout Simpson homered and
Ivan Herrera added an RBI double to cut the deficit to 5-4
- Both teams settled in during the middle innings, with Lynn's pitching staff holding Saint Leo scoreless in the fifth and sixth to keep the game within one
- Saint Leo added an insurance run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to extend its lead to 6-4
- Lynn threatened late in the eighth, putting runners on second and third, but a double play ended the rally and kept the deficit intact
- The Lions added two more in the ninth on a two-run single to push the lead to 8-4
- Lynn loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but was unable to capitalize as the comeback bid fell short in the series finale
