ORLANDO, Fla. – Lynn University men's golf sophomore
Tristan Wieland was named the Sunshine State Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Thursday.
Wieland earns the weekly honor following a runner-up finish at the Jay Jennison Cup, where he carded a 12-under 204 over three rounds at World Golf Village's Slammer & Squire Course in St. Augustine, Florida.
The Fighting Knight opened the tournament with a seven-under 65, recording eight birdies and an eagle. He followed with a five-under 67 in the second round to sit at 12-under through 36 holes.
Wieland closed the tournament with an even-par 72 to finish tied atop the leaderboard with Flagler's Matthew French at 12-under. French ultimately prevailed in a playoff for the individual title.
Wieland's performance helped lead Lynn to a runner-up finish in the 11-team field. The Fighting Knights posted rounds of 281 (-7), 274 (-14) and 285 (-3) to finish at 24-under, four strokes behind tournament champion Flagler.
The honor comes in just Wieland's second tournament as a Fighting Knight. He has now posted four rounds of par or better through his first six rounds with Lynn, highlighted by his seven-under 65 at the Jay Jennison Cup.
The Fighting Knights return to action Sept. 28-29th at the NCAA National Championship Preview just up the road at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
