Lynn University dropped a heartbreaker to West Florida, 93-92, in overtime Saturday night at LU's de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center in the first day of the Courtyard by Marriott Holiday Classic. The Fighting Knights falls to 2-7 on the season while UWF improves to 5-5.
A career-high 23 points by Josh Garcia and a season-high 22 by Chris Hall were not enough as the Argonauts shot 50.8% from the field and sank 12 threes.
West Florida won it on a layup by Mike Lewis with six seconds to go. Lewis recorded the steal on a Fighting Knights inbounds pass and made the contested shot off the glass.
Lynn forced overtime by going on a 5-0 run at the end of regulation. Down 84-79 with 2:08 remaining, Bo Jukic made a layup off the window to cut the lead to three. A trey by Robinson tied the score with 1:26 remaining.
The Fighting Knights had a chance to win it in regulation as Pascal Schuler made a steal with ten seconds left. After a timeout, Lynn got the ball into the hot-shooting hands of Garcia, but his jumper from the top of the key was deflected by UWF's Jamar Moore (29 pts, eight rebounds, six assists).
A short-handed Fighting Knights squad also got 15 points from Robinson, as well as 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds from Jukic. Schuler scored a career-high seven points in a career-high 36 minutes. Coming into tonight, Schuler had played no more than 21 minutes in a game.
