BOCA RATON, Fla.—With double-doubles from Slobodan Miljanic and Bo Jukic, Lynn University's men's basketball team separated from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez late in the first half and came away with a 90-66 victory on Tuesday.
One game after posting a career-best 17 points, Jukic tallied another career-night in both points and rebounds. The senior collected 24 points and 15 rebounds to go along with a 10-17 shooting night. Not to be overshadowed by Jukic's performance, Miljanic also registered career-bests in both points and boards with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
However, the first half proved to be a contest with both teams answering the call to compete. The largest lead the Knights could muster through the first 15:00 minutes of play was only nine on a Brandon Smith made free throw with 09:48 on the clock. But with 05:29 to play in the first period, Miljanic knocked down a three to stretch the Lynn lead to doubles-digits at 34-23. The Blue & White ended the half on a 15-8 run to earn an 18 point advantage going into the locker room.
During the first half, the Knights had no answer for UPR-Mayaguez's Juan Ramos. The guard amassed 25 first-half points on a 6-7 shootingmark from behind the arc and a 5-5 clip from the free throw line.
In the second half, the Fighting Knights' lead hovered around 18 until the 04:05 minute mark when Jukic converted on a free throw to make it Lynn 84, UPR-Mayaguez 64. From that point on, the Knights closed out the game with a 6-2 run and the 24-point win.
Junior transfer Jeremy Lampkin totaled a career-best 18 points and six rebounds, while Michel Vidal had a solid rebounding night as well with 11. Lynn dominated the glass and out-rebounded the Tarzans 51-32 and collected 46 points in the paint to Mayaguez's 16.
LU posted 49.2 percent shooting from the field and a 40 percent clip from downtown while converting on 24-35 from the charity stripe.
