BOCA RATON, Fla.—Lynn University's men's basketball improved to 6-5 on the season with stellar performances from Josh Garcia and Preye Preboye in a 75-42 win against the Missouri S&T Miners on Sunday in the Courtyard by Marriott Holiday Classic.
Garcia led all scorers with 21 points and three assists. Preboye added career-bests in points with 16, rebounds with 13 and steals with five. Nine of Preboye's rebounds came off the offensive glass.
The Blue & White fell behind on the first possession of the game on a three from Missouri S&T's Tommy Peleczynski then answered on the very next possession with a DeMario Fountain trifecta with 19:17 on the clock. The Knights remained in control the rest of the game and would never surrender the lead.
During the first period, Lynn stretched its advantage to 21 on two occasions and ended the half up 38-19.
The Knights dominated post play by out-scoring the Miners 16-8 in the first half. Lynn also collected 12 second-chance points on eight first-half offensive rebounds. LU shot 48.5 percent from the floor in period one and 45.5 percent from behind the arc.
In the second half, Preboye connected on two free throws to give Lynn its largest lead of the nights at 35 with four minutes and 27 seconds remaining. Lynn cruised through the rest of the game as all 13 players on the roster saw playing time.
LU converted 45.2 percent of its shots for the game while holding Missouri S&T to only 31.3 percent shooting from the floor. The Knights also posted a 44.4 percent clip from downtown.
Defensive specialist Michel Vidal tallied 10rebounds, four blocks and four assists. Fountain led the team in assists with five.
