Men's Basketball Falls to St. Thomas

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University's men's basketball team fell 66-60 to St. Thomas (Fla.) on Thursday night at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center.  Slobodan Miljanic led all scorers with 20 points but the Fighting Knights were not able to hold on in dropping to 3-5 on the season.

Miljanic was hot from the perimeter, knocking down a pair of three-pointers as LU built an eight-point 19-11 lead.  Later, an 8-0 run started by Miljanic and ended by Jeremy Lampkin put the Blue & White up by double-digits, 28-18.  The Bobcats would get back to single digits on a pair of shots by Jeffrey Remmington at the free-throw line but LU was able to extend its advantage by as many as 11 following a free-throw by Jerrell Oxendine.

Lynn headed to the locker room with a 33-24 lead, shooting 38.5 percent from the field and holding St. Thomas to 41.2 percent shooting.

The Knights maintained its double-digit lead for the first three minutes of play in the second half before STU embarked on a 14-4 run that put it ahead 44-43.  Oxendine regained the lead for LU at the charity stripe but a trey by Kevin Hincapie put the Bobcats back on top for good, 52-50.

Lynn was able to close the gap to two points when Michael Vidal scored easily on a jumper in the paint but Hincapie came back down the courtand converted on two free-throws before dishing out a lay-up to Everson Lacerdo to make it a six-point, 58-52, game.  The chess match of fouls and free-throws played out with the Knights not getting any closer than three points.

St. Thomas shot 47.6 percent from the field for the game while Lynn hit 35.3 percent of its shots.  The Knights did have a 36-31 advantage on the boards but the two teams were deadlocked with 20 turnovers apiece.

Lynn returns to the hardwood on Monday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Florida Memorial.  Fans can follow the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com.
