Box Score Greenwood, S.C. – Lynn University's baseball team finished up its weekend with a 13-5 loss to No. 7 Grand Valley State on Sunday afternoon. Eric Herrera, Alex Bello and Patrick Roedel each posted multi-hit games while the Fighting Knights pitching staff logged 11 strikeouts. Lynn's record evens up at 3-3 overall.
For the second game in a row, the Blue & White faced an early deficit. The Lakers took a 4-0 lead following a grand slam by Dan Ponegalek before taking advantage of throwing error in the second to put up a five spot.
Ryan Digiose replaced starter Collin McGowan and tossed 3.1 innings scoreless ball with three strikeouts. Sam Jones pitched a perfect sixth but Corey Adelman ran into trouble in the seventh, surrendering four runs on three hits before Carl Gorman entered and shut down GVSU. The Knight's senior lefty held the Lakers to just one hit in 2.2 innings of work while fanning five hitters.
Austin Smith and Leo Carrillo helped Lynn get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh. Smith made it 13-1 when he raced home after a passed ball and Carrillo added the second run off an Anthony Boza RBI groundout.
The Knights added three more runs in the bottom of the ninth, getting RBI base-knocks by Richie McVey and Roedel.
