Box Score 2 BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's baseball team lost 11-9 and 3-2 to No. 19 Florida Southern on Sunday afternoon. Dane Derstine went 4-for-8 with three runs scored while Anthony Boza and Steven Fernandez combined to drive in seven runs. The Fighting Knights fall to 19-17 overall and 4-8 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Game one proved to be a slugfest as the two teams combined for 30 hits, 10 of which went for extra bases. Derstine put LU on top 1-0 in the second with his third home run of the season but the lead was short lived as Florida Southern scored six times in the third, courtesy of four extra base hits including a home run by Tony Mitchell.
Lynn would not go down lightly as it responded with five runs in the bottom half. Three came on a three-run home run by Boza while Fernandez knotted the game at six with a two-run, two-out triple.
The Mocs regained the lead, 7-6, in the top of the fourth but the Knights came back with three in the bottom of the fifth to ahead 9-7. Phil Mannelly plated the first with a bases loaded single to center field before Fernandez and Kyle Radzewski added the cushion with RBI hits.
Mitchell tied things up in the seventh, though, with his second home run of the day, a two-run shot to right field. Lynn's defense then let dropped the ball as a inning-ending routine fly ball was dropped, allowing FSC to score the game-winning runs in the top of the 11th frame.
Game two was a pitching duel between Kyle Wolfe and Eddie Sipple. Wolfe allowed three runs, two earned, with two strikeouts but picked up the loss in his third complete game of the year. Southern scored once in the third and took advantage of another LU gaffe to score two more in the sixth.
Lynn tied the game at one in the fourth off a Boza sacrifice fly but watched as its offense could not advance runners on first and second with no outs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
