BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's women's soccer team continued its reign over Palm Beach Atlantic, winning 2-0 on Thursday to improve to 11-0-2 all-time against the Sailfish. Scout Stowe scored her first career goal and Melissa Ortiz added a goal and assist as the Fighting Knights improved to 6-1-1 overall.
Behind a back line of Rio Hanlan, Lauren Impey, Paige Meggison and Megan Rodwell, the Blue & White once again dominated its opponent defensively. For the second consecutive game LU did not surrender a shot on goal and allowed a mere two shots total. Megan Dolan has now played 180 consecutive minutes without having to make a save.
The Knights' defense was given a buffer by their offense in the 26th minute of play after getting stonewalled earlier in the match. Melissa Ortiz picked up a loose ball midway into PBA territory, drove down the right sideline and sent in a beautiful cross to the near post. Stowe timed her run perfectly and stepped in front of the pass at the right time for the one-timed goal.
Palm Beach Atlantic (5-5-1) made a late aggressive push with time winding down in the match as Lynn was caught playing on its heels. Great defense from LU's back line kept the Sailfish from attempting any shots and set the team up to put the game away.
Kirstie Schults fought her way around the PBA defense and got enough of the ball to tip it out wide left for Ortiz. The senior forward ran onto the pass, settled and ripped a shot across the box to the right side netting for her team-high seventh goal and 16th point. She has already doubled her entire point total from 2010 in eight games this season.
With one grudge match settled, the Fighting Knights now turn their attention to Sunday, October 1, when they look for revenge on an early-season loss to No. 8 Saint Leo.
