Clearwater, Fla.—Lynn University's softball team fell to the West Florida University Argos in the final game of the Eckerd tournament 6-1 on Sunday despite Callie Darlin's 3-for-3 day at the plate and complete game one earned run performance in the circle.
Lauren Garceau continued her torrid pace at the plate with a 2-for-4 day. Anne Marie Van Casteren also added a hit for Lynn (0-9) to bring the Fighting Knights' hit total to six for the game.
Lynn threatened to score in the first inning when Van Casteren singled down the left field line then moved to second on a Garceau single to center field. With one out, the Knights could not find any more hits in the inning and concluded the frame on a Kaci Vassallo popup and a Mandi Brown fly out the deep left field.
West Florida plated the first run of the game in the third inning but Lynn answered in the bottom of the third. Van Casteren and Garceau both reached base on West Florida errors then Vassallo earned a walk to load the bases for Lynn with one out. Darlin singled to score Van Casteren and tied the game at 1-1 but the Blue & White could do no more damage.
With the game tied going into the seventh, West Florida earned a leadoff walk which eventually scored to break the tie and give the Argos a 2-1 advantage. The Argos then scored five more runs in the inning, all of which were unearned.
Garceau singled to left field to start Lynn's half of the seventh inning but the Knights could not mount the comeback.
Lynn left nine runners stranded and committed five errors on the game. The Knights were a mere 1-11 with runners in scoring position.
