BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's men's basketball team started a new chapter in history on Saturday night with a 84-62 win over Florida Memorial (0-1). The Fighting Knights (1-0) were led offensively by junior Aaron Harrison who scored a game-high 25 points with nine rebounds.
The Blue & White started the game on a 19-4 run while forcing five turnovers by the Lions in the first seven minutes of play. Florida Memorial worked to stay within reach of the Fighting Knights and was able to cut the deficit to nine, 33-24, with 4:21 to play in the half. LU took its biggest lead of 21 points with 1:18 remaining before heading to the locker room up 50-30 at halftime.
Harrison scored 19 of his points in the first half while shooting 70 percent from the field with a team-high six rebounds. Kaleb Clyburn and Fred Landers each had eight points helping the Fighting Knights to a 48.5 shooting percentage from the field.
LU continued to run away with the game in the second half extending its lead to 24 points, 70-46, with 9:32 remaining. The Fighting Knights had its largest lead of 28 with 8:02 remaining in regulation when the Lions trailed 46-74. The Blue & White successfully held off FMU for a 84-62 victory to secure its first win of the season.
Florida Memorial scored 21 points off the bench in the second half and shot 35.1 percent from the field. Harrison again led LU in scoring with just six points in the second half helping the Knights to a 47.6 shooting percentage from the field.
Lynn out rebounded the Lions 47-33 and held the Orange & Blue to 33.8 percent from the field while not allowing a single three-point shot. The Fighting Knights shot 29.4 percent from behind the arc and 73 percent from the free throw line.
Clyburn dished out seven assists while scoring 12 points to join Harrison in double-digit scoring. Brandon Smith came off the bench for LU and scored a quiet nine points shooting six-for-six from the charity line.
