Box Score 2 Winter Park, Fla.- Lynn University's softball team dropped both games of its double header at Rollins on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights held the No. 7 Tars to just four hits in game one, but a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning from Tars freshman Brittany Johnson would give Rollins the 1-0 victory in game one. In the final game of the three-game series Lynn was able to score two runs but fell, 9-2. The three-game sweep by the Tars opens LU's Sunshine State Conference season, 0-3.
Four Knights reached base safely on hits in the game one. Both teams lacked offense in the Sunshine State Conference showdown. Kasey Murray held the Tars to just four hits while striking out two batters in six and a third innings on the mound. Lynn threatened multiple times, stranding nine runners including the bases loaded twice.
After a scoreless six innings, a single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning was all the Tars would need to take game two of the series. With the loss, Murray moves to 7-7 this season on the mound.
In game two the bats were swinging, Rollins took an immediate 3-0 lead in the second inning after a scoreless first. In the top of the fourth inning Anne Marie Van Casteren hit a two-run double to cut the Tars lead to one. A Veronica Alred home run, her second in two days, would score two more runs for Rollins to lead 5-2.
Rollins went on to score four more runs before retiring the LU batters in order in the top of the seventh to win 9-2. Niki Fogle earned her 14th win of the season while striking out four Fighting Knights. Kasey Murray (7-8) pitched four and two thirds before Missy Montgomery stepped in for the final four outs of the game.
Van Casteren went 1-for-3 with two RBI while Devin Kochergen, Bianca Savulak, and Kaci Vassallo all reached safely as well. Kochergen extended her three-game hit streak as has now reached safely in four of the last five games.
