Winter Park, Fla. – A three-set win at the No. 3 singles position by Tomas Prokop broke a 4-4 tie and gave Lynn University's fourth-ranked men's tennis team a 5-4 win over No. 9 Rollins on Sunday afternoon. Three matches went into a third-set with the Fighting Knights winning two to move to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Danny Riggs and Paolo Volpicelli had an easy time at the top-doubles position, winning 8-2 over Will Kwok and Jason Alabaster. The final two spots would end up as nailbiters. Vlad Cirla and Roman Turtygen came out on top 9-7 against Adrian Di Felice and Malte Christesen but Alessio Iannozzi and Pavel Mojha could not complete the sweep, falling 9-8 (11-9) against Ari Davis and Jacobo Herrero.
Lynn received an easy point at No. 1 singles when 38th-ranked Malte Christesen was forced to retire down 5-4 after an injury to 17th-ranked Cirla. Rollins' (2-3, 1-1 SSC) would knot the match at 3-3 when Di Felice and Keegan Burger pulled out identical 6-4, 6-2 scores against Volpocelli and Turtygin. Iannozzi turned the tide in the Fighting Knights favor with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 win over No. 34 Alabaster at No. 4 but Robin Marchione evened things up again by defeating Riggs 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at the second spot.
All eyes centered on Prokop and Kwok with the match tied 6-4, 2-6. Lynn's No. 3 singles player was able to break serve once and carry the Blue & White to their 15th straight win over Rollins by taking the third set 6-4.
