BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's eighth-ranked men's tennis team defeated No. 32 Florida Southern (8-8) on Friday night at the Perper Tennis Complex. The Fighting Knights improve to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in Sunshine State Conference Play. Tomas Prokop won his fourth match of the season at the top of Lynn's lineup, where he has stepped up to replace No. 17 Vlad Cirla.
The Blue & White swept singles action to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Paolo Volpicelli and Daniel Riggs defeated Benoit Paradis and Emanuel Lueber, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. Lynn's No. 2 doubles team of Alessio Iannozzi and Tomas Prokop took down Vladimir Barabash and Nathan Leavitt, 8-3, to improve to 12-0 this season when partnered together. Pavel Mojha and Guilio Gomba rounded out Lynn's scoring with a 9-8 (7-4) win at No. 3 doubles over Charles Garneau and Carl Lundberg.
No. 37 Prokop defeated Paradis in three sets to put Lynn within one point of clinching its fifth SSC win of the season. After dropping the first set, 3-6, Prokop battled back to win sets two and three, 6-3 and 11-9. No. 36 Riggs then beat Lundberg in straight sets of 6-2 to seal the victory. Mojha played No. 3 singles for the Blue & White where he beat Barabash, 6-1, 6-2. Iannozzi and Gomba both won their sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, while Volpicelli was defeated at the No. 4 spot in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, 7-10, by Leavitt.
Lynn will play its final match of the regular season in on Sunday, April 6, when the Fighting Knights take on defending national champion No. 2 Barry (15-2) at 10:00 a.m. in Miami Shores, Fla.
