Box Score Clearwater, Fla. – Lynn University's softball team started the 2015 season on Friday night at the Eckerd Triton Spring Invitational, losing to West Florida 5-2.
Freshman Francais Olexa put on an impressive debut in the batter's box, going 1-2 with a walk and a run scored. Kaci Vassallo and Leanne Wright also logged hits while the duo drove in the Fighting Knights two runs. In the circle, Missy Montgomery pitched a complete game allowing five runs, four earned and three strikeouts.
The Blue & White got on the scoreboard first, scoring in the first inning of the season. Jasmine Campos started the campaign with a leadoff walk, making her way around the bases before Vassallo drilled a shot through the left side bringing her teammate home. West Florida responded with a run in the bottom of the inning.
In the third inning Lynn retook the lead similar fashion to the previous inning. Francais Olexa led off with a walk, advancing on a sacrifice bunt from Vassallo. Leanne Wright got the rbi with a single down the right field line to bring the freshman home for her first career score. As was the case in the first inning West Florida knotted up the score in its following at bat.
The Argonauts took its first lead of the contest in the fourth inning, and added two cushion runs in the sixth.
