No. 5 Women's Tennis Dominates No. 6 West Florida

Valdosta, Ga. – The fifth-ranked Lynn University women's tennis team handed sixth-ranked University of West Florida its first loss of the season in convincing fashion on Saturday morning, dropping the Argonauts 8-1 in Valdosta, Ga.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Blue & White built an early lead with a 3-0 doubles sweep. 
  • Lynn's No. 1-ranked doubles team of Rosalie Willig and Diana Bogolii posted an 8-3 victory at the top flight.
  • Grace Mpassy and Carolina Cuevas battled for a 9-7 triumph at No. 2 doubles, while Martina Gledacheva and Alina Jane teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 3.
  • The Blue & White took five of the six singles matches, with four coming in straight-sets, to secure the win.
  • Eight-ranked Bogolii dropped Hannah Toro 6-3, 7-6 at the top flight, while 23rd-ranked Willig defeated Paula Lopez at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3.
  • Mpassy had yet another dominant singles performance, blanking Dianna Vlad 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
  • After dropping a close first set at the fourth flight, Cuevas bounced back to take down 32nd-ranked Kat Dikosavljevic in a 10-point breaker (6-7, 6-3, 10-7).
  • Jane rounded out Lynn's eight points with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over 42nd-ranked Nina Bubelova in the No. 6 match.
  • Gledacheva clashed with Saria Flores at No. 5 singles, ultimately falling in the third (6-4, 5-7, 3-10) to give UWF its only point in the match.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Both of UWF's nationally-ranked singles players lost to unranked Fighting Knights (Cuevas, Jane).

UP NEXT:
Lynn wraps up the weekend in Valdosta, Ga. tomorrow, Feb. 28, with a 10 a.m. matchup against No. 8 Columbus St.
