Men's Basketball Nearly Upsets No. 3 Bellarmine in Two-Point Setback

Miami Shores, Fla. – Lynn University's men's basketball team held a three-point lead with under one minute to play on Saturday afternoon but third-ranked Bellarmine University knotted it up with a second-chance three-ball before a game-winning layup with two seconds to go halted the upset bid at Barry University's Cesar Odio Thanksgiving Classic.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Behind a big second half, Ryan Peterson came off the bench and led his squad in scoring yet again with 19 points.
  • Randy Bell shot 5-of-8 from the field and 4-of-6 from long range for 15 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Rasheed Worrell fell just shy of the double-double with 10 points and a team-best eight boards.
  • Michael Baez (12) and Brandon Bornelus (10) came off the bench and hit double figures to round out Lynn's five double-digit scorers.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Bell was named to the All-Tournament Team, joining Adam Eberhard (Bellarmine), Justin Greason (GVSU) and Barry's Elvar Fridriksson and Johannes Dolven. Bellarmine's Brent Bach was named the tournament's MVP.
  • Peterson has led Lynn in scoring in three of the four games this season, coming off the bench in all three of those contests.
  • Nationally, Bellarmine is ranked No. 3 in the NABC Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the D2SIDA poll.
  • Bellarmine was an NCAA National Semifinalist last season.
  • A win would have marked the second consecutive year the Fighting Knights recorded an upset over a top-10 team. Lynn defeated No. 9 Drury at home last season.

Lynn remains on the road but returns to conference play this Wednesday, Nov. 29 with a 7:30 p.m. matchup at Florida Tech.
