First-Place Barry Spoils Men's Basketball's Senior Night

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Barry University secured its third straight Sunshine State Conference regular season championship on Wednesday night as the visiting Bucs came to Boca Raton and knocked off Lynn University's men's basketball team in the Fighting Knights' final regular-season game of 2017-18 in a 78-60 contest. The Blue and White honored their four-man senior class before the game consisting of Traveon Henry, Allen Baez, Morgan Garrison and Chances Matlock.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Rasheed Worrell was the only Fighting Knight to find double digits in the scoring column, using an efficient 6-of-10 performance from the floor for a team-high 12 points. He also hauled in five rebounds and swatted a block.
  • Brandon Bornelus sank two of Lynn's four triples on the day, finishing with eight points and two assists.
  • Kevin O'Brien struggled to find his jumper, but he did contribute defensively with a career-high three blocks. He tacked on four rebounds, an assist and a steal.
  • Ryan Peterson led his squad on the glass with six rebounds and dropped seven points offensively.
  • Michael Baez added eight points and four boards off the bench.
  • Garrison entered the game late and immediately went to work, getting to the line twice and finishing with a career-high five points.
  • Daniel Cooper fell one shy of his season-high in scoring with seven points and four rebounds while going 3-for-4 at the charity stripe.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Barry's three straight SSC regular-season titles matches the most consecutive titles won by any school in the 42-year history of the conference.
  • Lynn's six assists are one shy of the season-low.
  • The Fighting Knights struggled from long range, shooting 4-of-22 and recording their third-lowest three-point shooting percentage this season (18.2).
  • Lynn still finishes the season with a 6-4 record at home.
  • Barry has won the last six games vs. Lynn over the past three seasons.
  • Lynn hasn't defeated Barry on its home floor since the 2011-12 campaign.

UP NEXT:
Lynn concludes the regular season and has qualified for the SSC Tournament, but has its bye this Saturday as the rest of the league plays their final games of the season. The Fighting Knights will travel on Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the opening round with details still to be determined.
