Halftime Deficit Troubles Men's Lacrosse in SSC Opener

Lakeland, Fla. – A 4-0 scoring run for Florida Southern at the end of the second quarter put Lynn University's men's lacrosse team in a steep halftime deficit Saturday night as the Fighting Knights dropped their Sunshine State Conference opener to the Mocs, 13-9.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Keegan Maxwell led the offensive effort, recording a hat trick on six shot attempts, but committed a game-high five turnovers.
  • Conor Vaughan logged his second multi-goal game of the season, finding the back of the net twice. All five of his shot attempts hit the frame while he also picked up three ground balls.
  • Peter Masters buried a goal for the first time this season while Conrad Rhein, Nick McCabe and Xander Cosenza rounded out Lynn's goal scorers with one apiece.
  • McCabe made it a three-point effort with two assists; Rhein and Cosenza added helpers with Mikey Urso and Caleb Wells tallying the final two Lynn assists.
  • Dryden Brous had himself another strong outing at the faceoff X, winning 19-of-25 draws while scooping a game-high 14 ground balls.
  • Collin McClelland played all 60 minutes in the cage, making nine saves.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Coming into today's game, Lynn and Florida Southern have traded wins each of the past five seasons during the programs' series history. The away team has won every matchup. FSC's win at home tonight over Lynn marks the first time the home team has ever won in this matchup.
  • Lynn outshot the Mocs (38-32) and picked up more ground balls (28-22). The faceoff department was drastically in favor of the Fighting Knights (19-of-25).
  • FSC led 8-3 at the half.
  • Earlier this season, FSC broke the NCAA Division II record for most goals in a game with 35 vs. Emmanuel (Ga.).
  • Both teams are just outside of the national rankings by the USILA.
