Men's Lacrosse Caps Nonconference Play with Regional Win

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's men's lacrosse team hosted Colorado State University-Pueblo on Friday night, marking the squad's final nonconference matchup of the season before turning to the final stretch of Sunshine State Conference action. The Fighting Knights started fast and never gave up the lead, downing the ThunderWolves, 16-6. Mikey Urso and Xander Cosenza combined to score half of the team's goals.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Urso and Cosenza both registered five-point nights as the pair each tallied four goals and an assist. Urso matched his career high in the scoring department while Cosenza was one-goal shy. All eight of Urso's shot attempts found the frame.
  • Chase Stokes and Caleb Wells were the only other Fighting Knights with multiple goals, while Stokes tacked on an assist.
  • Gavin Leach, Conor Vaughan, Cal Gallagher and Keegan Maxwell rounded out Lynn's goal scorers.
  • Nick McCabe didn't find the back of the net, but he did dish out a career-high three assists.
  • Leach, Vaughan and Gallagher all made it two-point efforts with an assist apiece, while Jared Chaloux picked up a helper as well.
  • Dryden Brous has another stellar performance in the circle, winning 17-of-19 faceoffs with 11 ground balls. Teammate Dwayne Owens added a 5-of-6 effort at the X.
  • Evan P. Kalish had his best defensive game to date in the Blue and White, logging game-highs in ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (4).
  • Harrison Kaplan (3) and Christian Jenkins (2) combined for five caused turnovers, while Greg Morissette and Jensen Colberg each scooped up three ground balls with Jenkins adding four.
  • Collin McClelland played the first 54 minutes in the cage, making four saves. Connor Owens tallied one stop in relief.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • The ThunderWolves started the season 3-0 before heading to Florida for spring break, where CSU lost three straight to SSC teams. (Rollins, 22-8; Florida Southern, 18-6).
  • CSU's goalie Colton Rasmussen registered an astounding 22 saves.
  • McCabe has multiple assists in four consecutive games.
  • Kalish is the sixth player in program history to tally four or more caused turnovers in a game.
  • Lynn outshot CSU, 58-22.

UP NEXT:
Lynn remains home but returns to conference action next Saturday, March 30, with a 1 p.m. contest against Rollins.
