Fighting Knights defeat Ave Maria 24-6

Boca Raton, Florida – The Fighting Knights went up 16-2 by halftime and never looked back, getting their second straight win by double-digits, as they took down Ave Maria 24-6. It was the largest win in program history, surpassing their season-opening win of 22-5 over Young Harris.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Isabella Clark wasted no time scoring the first goal of the game with 13:47 in the first quarter.
  • Sydney Hill and Krystyn Johnson would both score goals shortly after, giving Lynn a 3-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
  • Ave Maria scored their first goal of the game with 9:53 remaining in the period. It was their only goal of the period.
  • Johnson scored back-to-back goals later in the quarter, both assisted by Clark. This gave Johnson a hat trick for the game just six minutes into the contest.
  • Clark and Hill finished with two goals in the quarter, and Diane Dohler and Lauren Dickson each scored once to give Lynn a 9-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • The second quarter was much like the first for Lynn, scoring seven goals and holding the Gyrenes to just one. Danielle Farinas and Jordyn McCullough each scored twice in the quarter, while Clark, Dickson and Mallory Jarka each added one. The Gyrenes scored right at the end of the half, a goal that would end a 13-0 run from the Fighting Knights.
  • The Fighting Knights continued their dominance in the second half to earn a 24-6 victory. Lynn's final goal was scored by Bayley Tracy, her second of the season.
  • Dohler led the way with a team-high four goals. She was followed by Clark, McCullough, Hill, Farinas and Johnson who all had hat tricks.
  • Clark finished with a team-high four assists, along with a team-high seven total points for the game. Haley Craig and Johnson were right behind her with two assists.
  • Lynn recorded 20 ground balls compared to 14 for Ave Maria. Lynn also had 40 shots on goal, while Ave Marie only had nine. The turnover battle also played a large part, with Lynn winning it 16-9.
  • Ciara Moorman only faced two shots in the game, and she saved one of them. She was replaced by Carolyn Stein who finished with two saves.

UP NEXT:

The Fighting Knights will be on the road for their next game when they travel to St. Augustine, Florida to take on Flagler. The game will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m.
