Fighting Knights defeat Flagler 20-12

St. Augustine, Florida – After a five day break, the Fighting Knights were back in action and the piled it on the Lions. After being down 6-2 early on, Lynn kept up the pressure and ended out on top with help from an eight straight goal stretch in the fourth quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Just :24 seconds into the game, the Lions opened the scoring, but two minutes later Xander Cosenza tied it up from Joseph Michalski.
  • With Flagler eventually up 3-1, Jalen Stanton tallied a goal with the man up from Cosenza with 14:41 left in the second.
  • Flagler got out to a 6-2 lead, but the Fighting Knights did not let that deter them. 
  • With 8:01 left in the second, Caleb Wells scored from Tommy Ruddo. Just two minutes later, Michalski scored one of his own to put Lynn within two.
  • Down 7-4 in the second, Michalski scored again from Cosenza. Flagler tacked on another goal after this, but Lynn added two more before the end of the half.
  • Matthew Ilchuk put in two for the Fighting Knights in the final minute, including one at :06 for Lynn to end the half down 8-7.
  • Out of the half, just over one minute into the quarter, Stanton added another goal to tie it from Ilchuk. After this, Ilchuk recorded a hat trick from Ruddo, putting Lynn ahead 9-8.
  • Michalski added another Lynn hat trick with 12:44 left in the third quarter to put Lynn up 10-9. After that lead change in Lynn's favor, Ilchuk added another tally, as well as Cosenza. The Fighting Knights led after three 12-11.
  • Michalski scored again for Lynn just over a minute into the fourth to make it 13-11. Connor Koppelman added his first of the game from Michalski with 13:00 to go in the game and just over :40 seconds later Cosenza recorded his hat trick.
  • The Fighting Knights added five more goals in a row from Michalski, Ruddo, two in a row from Connor Houston, and a final goal on the man up for Ilchuk from Colby Keefe to win 20-12.
  • Michalski and Ilchuk both tallied five goals and three assist. Michalski led the Fighting Knights with eight shots on goal followed by Ilchuk with seven.
  • Cosenza recorded three goals and three assists.
  • Ruddo and Wells had a goal and two assists.
  • Stanton and Houston both had two goals.
  • Colin Casey had the win with seven saves on 13 shots while Benjamin Looges had three saves on nine shots.

The Fighting Knights play again in their first conference game vs Florida Southern in Lakeland, Florida on Saturday, Mar. 19th at 1 P.M.
