18th-ranked Fighting Knights win thriller over 5th-ranked Tars

Box Score

Boca Raton, Florida – After achieving a national ranking for the first time in program history earlier this week, the Fighting Knights proved they were for real with a 12-10 victory over national No. 5 Rollins. The Tars came into the game undefeated, but they never once trailed as Lynn was able to keep them at arm's length for the final three-quarters of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Diane Dohler got the scoring started, finding the back of the net on a free position shot just over 1:30 into the game.
  • Rollins' Liz Fahey would tie the game up three minutes later.
  • The back and forth nature of the game would continue as Mallory Jarka put Lynn back on top 2-1 with a goal with 9:14 left in the period. It was followed by a Rollins goal that knotted the game at two.
  • The Fighting Knights then scored back-to-back goals. First, Lauren Dickson beat the keeper, then Kristyn Johnson scored a man-up goal to give Lynn a two-goal lead.
  • Rollins would get on the board next, and the Fighting Knights would take a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.
  • Lynn came out on fire to start the second quarter, scoring four consecutive goals to take an 8-3 lead.
  • It all got started when Danielle Farinas took a Dohler pass and found the back of the net.
  • Bayley Tracy scored less than a minute later off a pass from Sydney Hill, then Farinas scored her second goal of the game.
  • The run was capped by a Hill to Dickson connection that gave Lynn the five-goal advantage.
  • Rollins would end the run and cut the lead to four before Jarka scored her second goal of the game to put Lynn back up by five.
  • The Tars would score the next two goals of the half to cut the deficit to 9-6 heading into the break.
  • In the third quarter, the Tars quickly cut the lead to one, as they showed they were not going to go down quietly.
  • Lynn needed to find a spark offensively, and find one they did in Hill. She managed to beat the Tars defense twice in just over 1:00 to put Lynn back on top by three.
  • Rollins would add one more goal in the period to cut the lead to 11-9.
  • In the fourth quarter, Carly McNeil found the back of the net early to put Lynn back up by three.
  • Rollins would score with 6:50 remaining to make things interesting, but they weren't able to score again, giving Lynn their biggest win in program history.
  • Ciara Moorman recorded 11 saves, each of which was huge in keeping Lynn on top throughout the game.
  • Johnson recorded seven draw controls and Jarka had four.
  • Dickson led the way with three ground balls, while Johnson, Moorman and Hill all had two.
