HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The game between the Fighting Knights and Mocs was a continuation of a suspended game that took place on Apr. 2. On that night, Danielle Farinas scored a goal 46 seconds into the game before the contest had to be suspended due to lightning. Due to this, Lynn began the day with a 1-0 lead.
  • Carly McNeil and Sydney Hill wasted no time in building on the Fighting Knights' lead, scoring twice in the first four minutes of the game to put Lynn up 3-0.
  • The rest of the quarter was back and forth, with Florida Southern and Lynn trading goals. The Fighting Knights picked up scores from Mallory Jarka and Lauren Dickson to take a 5-3 lead into the second quarter.
  • In the second quarter, the Mocs came out on fire, scoring four straight goals to take a 7-5 lead.
  • Kristyn Johnson stopped the bleeding with a free position goal to cut the deficit to one.
  • Florida Southern then rattled off three more goals to open up a 10-6 advantage.
  • Johnson scored again off a pass from Isabella Clark, to cut into the lead, but the Mocs scored the final two goals of the half to go into the break up 12-7.
  • In the third quarter, the Mocs scored the first two goals to go up by seven.
  • Johnson then found the back of the net twice, then Hill scored her second goal of the game to help Lynn pull within four.
  • The Mocs scored just 30 seconds after Hill's final goal to go back up by five, then Jarka found the back of the net to get it back to a four-goal game.
  • The Mocs scored the final two goals of the quarter to go up 17-11.
  • Bayley Tracy found the back of the net just over two minutes into the fourth quarter to cut the lead to five. However, the Fighting Knights were not able to score again, as the Mocs rattled off the final four goals of the game to win 21-12.
  • The loss along with a Saint Leo victory over Embry-Riddle means the Fighting Knights finished fifth in the SSC, just missing the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
  • Delaney Gould and Jarka each recorded four ground balls to lead the way for Lynn. Catherine Whitcomb ended with three, while Hill, Johnson, Kaia Goodiel, and Ginger Stein each recorded two.
  • With four goals in the contest, Johnson brought her season total to 54, which is good enough for a Lynn University school record. Hill's two goals brought her season total to 48, which puts her second in Lynn history.
  • In all, five Fighting Knights would end the year with more goals than the previous season record. In addition to Johnson and Hill, the other players to achieve this feat were Farinas, Jarka and Clark.
  • Clark's two assists helped her to set the new school record with 39 assists on the season. She breaks her own record set back in 2020. Hill and Farinas also surpassed her mark, tallying 29 and 26 assists respectively on the season.
  • Ciara Moorman tallied four saves, as she finished the regular season with a school-record 93 of them.

UP NEXT:

Due to Saint Leo defeating Embry-Riddle the Fighting Knights have been eliminated from SSC Tournament contention. Whether they will take the field again will depend on how they are ranked in the next NCAA South Region poll. Lynn was previously No. 2 in the ranking. The top four teams qualify for postseason play.
