Djoubri captures ITA South Regional Title, punches ticket to ITA Cup

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Lynn University standout Salma Djoubri capped off a dominant weekend at the ITA South Regional Championships by capturing the singles title and earning an automatic berth to the ITA Cup. The senior standout defeated West Florida's Carlota Verdu, 6-2, 6-3, in Monday's weather-delayed final to secure her second career trip to the national tournament. Djoubri's commanding run through the regional field featured five straight-set victories, including a semifinal win over Barry's Dana Heimen (6-2, 6-0), marking the second time in her Fighting Knights career she has reached and now won the South Regional final.
 
SEMIFINALS:
- Djoubri took on Barry's Dana Heimen (fifth-seed) in the semifinal round, besting the Buccaneer senior to advance to the finals, 6-2, 6-0
- This marks the second time in Djoubri's tenure with the Fighting Knights that she has reached the South regional final
 
FINALS:
- Following a brief weather delay, Djoubri punched her ticket to the ITA Cup Tournament with an emphatic 6-2, 6-3 victory over eight-seed Carlota Verdu from West Florida
-This will be Djoubri's second trip to the ITA Cup as she won the Cup as a sophomore back in 2023
                                
REGIONAL RECAP:
Singles
- Djoubri opened up singles play for Lynn on Friday, blanking Claire Bosman of Spring Hill 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the round of 32
- Djoubri quickly turned away Louane Lutringer from Barry in the round of 32, 6-3, 6-2 to move on to the second day of singles competition
- Djoubri bested West Florida's Benedetta Sensi (tenth-seed) 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinal round
- Djoubri took on a familiar opponent in Barry's Viktoriia Dema (sixth-seed) in the quarterfinal round, eventually punching her ticket to the semifinal round with an emphatic 7-5, 6-4 victory
- Meadow Garcia faced off with West Alabama's Jenaila Prulla in the round of 64, dropping a narrow 6-4, 6-1 match
- Kristen Younes dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to seventh-seeded Alexa Milliam of West Alabama in the opening round
Doubles
- Younes teamed up with Garcia as the fifth-seed to take on Saint Leo's Deren Ozel and Camila Keller, winning the opening round match 8-7 (7-1)
- Younes and Garcia dominated their second-round matchup, powering past Valdosta State's Lena Beckx and Milica Prokic with an emphatic 8-4 victory
- Younes and Garcia's doubles run came to an end in the quarterfinals as Nova Southeastern's Kristyna Hranacova and Katja Markus defeated the Blue and White duo, 8-3
 
UP NEXT:
Djoubri will travel to Rome, Ga. for the ITA Cup where the top Division II players from all of the country will compete for the Singles National Championship. The tournament kicks off on Thursday, Oct. 16 and will run through Sunday, Oct. 19
