Canedo named SSC Defensive Player of the Week

MELBOURNE, Fla.- Lynn men's lacrosse senior Matthew Canedo was tabbed this week's Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday. This marks Canedo's first ever conference player of the week nod at Lynn and the second overall for the Fighting Knights in 2025.
 
Canedo caused havoc for opposing offenses last week, leading Lynn on the defensive end in wins against Florida Tech and Florida Southern. The senior defender forced nine total turnovers for the week including a career-best seven caused turnover performance against FSC on Saturday. He also picked up six total ground balls, keeping opposing teams at bay.
 
Canedo has been a defensive cornerstone for the Blue and White in 2025, ranking first in the SSC in caused turnovers with 31 on the year for a 2.38 clip. He also leads Lynn in ground balls with 37 on the year. Overall, Canedo and the Fighting Knight defense have been on a tear this season, ranking second in the conference in goals allowed at 115 (9.06 avg.).
 
Lynn is set to take on Palm Beach Atlantic on the road in the regular season finale set for Wednesday, Apr. 16 at 7:00 p.m. The Fighting Knights will then turn their attention to SSC tournament play, which is set to begin this weekend.
