LAKELAND, Fla. - The Lynn University men's golf team competed against a nationally ranked field and secured a tie for ninth place Tuesday at the Matlock Classic in Lakeland. The Fighting Knights posted rounds of 302, 289, and 303 to finish +30 overall in the 14-team tournament.
 
Simon Roessler paced the Blue and White lineup, tying for 28th individually at +5. Roessler highlighted his tournament with a strong second-round 70 (-2), helping Lynn post its lowest team score of the week during round two.
 
INSIDE THE TOURNAMENT:
Tournament Standing: T9th out of 14 teams (+30, 894)
Team Winner: West Florida (-17, 847)
Individual Winner: Donte Groppuso (Florida Southern, -13, 203)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn opened the tournament with a 302 before rebounding with its best round of the week, a 289 in round two
- The Fighting Knights closed with a 303 to secure a tie for ninth against a deep, ranked field
- Roessler led Lynn with rounds of 76-70-75 to finish tied for 28th
- Cole Ropicky carded 75-75-72 to tie for 30th, finishing strong with an even-par final round
- Matthew DePinto posted rounds of 76-72-79 to place tied for 49th
- Andres Asin contributed steady scoring with rounds of 79-72-77
- Joe Houghton battled through the field to round out Lynn's lineup
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Roessler tied for 28th at +5 with rounds of 76-70-75
- Ropicky finished tied for 30th at +6 after carding 75-75-72
- DePinto tied for 49th at +11 with scores of 76-72-79
- Asin placed tied for 54th at +12 with rounds of 79-72-77
- Houghton finished 72nd at +17 after posting 75-79-79
- Lynn led the tournament in Par 3s at a 3.20 avg. for a combined score of +12
