BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University baseball pitcher Matt Tiberia was selected in the 18^th round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners, Tuesday afternoon. Tiberia, a 6'3" right-handed pitcher, was the 543rd overall pick and the 18^th selection in the 18^th round.
 
A Glenmont, N.Y. native, Tiberia paced the Fighting Knight staff with 52 strikeouts in 55.1 innings this past spring. He finished with a 4.55 ERA in 15 appearances with two wins and one save.
 
"Congratulations to Matt as this is an honor he truly deserves," said head coach Rudy Garbalosa. "He worked extremely hard to get this opportunity to play professionally. I am excited to see him continue to grow and achieve his goals."
 
He earned his first win of the spring with a six-strikeout effort in 5.0 innings of work with just one earned run against Barry in late March. He followed with a 6.0 inning performance with a pair of strikeouts in a win over Florida Southern. He struckout a season-high seven batters against seventh-ranked Saint Leo on April 19 and closed the season with two strikeouts and the save in a 9-5 win over top-ranked and eventual national champion Tampa.
