It's a Jungle Out There for Baseball

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Looking to regroup following a difficult weekend, Lynn University's baseball team gets back on the diamond Tuesday at home against Florida Memorial before traveling to Melbourne to take on Florida Tech.  The Fighting Knights' game against the Lions is set for 3 p.m. while the three-game series at the Panthers begins on Friday at 3 p.m.

Anthony Boza added to his team-leading home run and RBI totals this weekend by hitting his fourth bomb and driving in five runs to give him 34 runs batted in.  Mike Diorio has a team-high .360 batting average and is one of five Knights who are hitting over .300.

Andrew Virgili had a great outing despite picking up the loss on the mound.  The junior right-hander struck out five batters in his last start to up his season totals to 72 Ks in 66.2 innings pitched.

Since last week's game was rained out, Florida Memorial lost two of three to Southeastern University.  The Lions opened up the series with an 11-1 victory but dropped their double-header on Saturday.  Andy Ruiz has a team-high .341 batting average and 22 runs batted in while Jean Carlos Diaz has two home runs, 17 RBIs and a .333 average.

This will be the second meeting between Lynn and Florida Tech this season after the Knights claimed a 16-5 victory in early February to push their all-time record to 34-27 against the Panthers.  A three-game sweep over Eckerd improved FIT's record to 23-13 overall and 7-8 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Ryan McChesney has been providing much of the offensive punch for the Panthers, pacing the squad with a team-high 12 doubles and 32 RBIs.  He is third with a .338 batting average, deferring to K.C. Clabough and his .370 average.  Four players are hitting above .300 while five have driven in 20 or more runs.

Jonathan Cornelius is Florida Tech's ace on the mound with a 6-1 record in 10 starts, 90 strikeouts and a 2.44 earned-run average in 70 innings of work.  The Panthers' weekend rotation also consists of Josh Ziemba (5-1 in nine starts) and Randall Thompson (7-3, 2.17 ERA, 58 Ks in 66.1 IP).
