Men's Basketball Falls in Last-Second Thriller

Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla.—Lynn University's men's basketball team could not overcome a 64.1 percent shooting clip from the field from theRollins College Tars and dropped a heart-breaker 71-70 on a last-second shot in Sunshine State Conference  play on Wednesday.

Slobodan Miljanic scored a game and career-high 22 with DeMario Fountain adding 14 and Josh Garcia chipping in with 12.

No team took control of the first half until the 05:52 minute mark when Bo Jukic connected on a free throw to tie things up at 24. At that point, Rollins (10-4, 3-1 SSC) went on a 14-0 run to capture its largest lead of the match up 38-24 with 01:49 left. However, Lynn (9-7, 2-2 SSC) answered with seven straight points capped off by a Pascal Schuler steal and breakaway layup as time expired in the period.

Rollins shot 63.6 percent from the field and from behind the arc in the first half while Lynn amassed a 37 percent shooting mark from the floor and a 41.2 percent clip from downtown.

Up by seven to start the second half, the Tars quickly amassed their largest lead of the half at 10 with just over a minute off the clock. Then again with 17:51 left in regulation, the Lynn deficit totaled 10.

Just past the halfway mark of the second half, Rollins claimed a five point advantage but the Fighting Knights continued to battle and knotted things up at 56 with 08:36 left.

The Tars stretched their advantage up to seven with 03:33 left but the Blue & White refused to go quietly into the night as Miljanic connected on a 24 footer to tie things up at 65 with just over 02:00 minutes left in the game.

After Rollins collected a one-point tilt with less than 10 seconds left, Miljanic earned a trip to the charity stripe. The Montenegro native converted both free throws and Lynn claimed a one point advantage.

With only four total points in the game at that point, Rollins' Myk Brown buried an 18 foot jumper to capture the win for the Tars.

Michel Vidal grabbed a team-high five boards with three points, three assists and three steals. Jeremy Lampkin scored 11 with four boards. One game removed from a career-best 19 points, Fountain added career marks in steals with five and assists with six.

For the game, Lynn boasted a 44.9 percent clip from the field and a 13-30 mark from behind the 3-point line.

Lynn's men's basketball team continues SSC play on Saturday, January 14 at 4 p.m. versus the Florida Tech Panthers. Live video coverage can be found on the Fighting Knights Network starting just before tip-off. Go to LynnFighitngKngihts.com and click on the Game Central icon for details.
