Carrollton, Ga. – Lynn University's baseball team closed out its three-gamer series with West Georgia with a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Kentrail Pierce tossed five shutout innings and the entire Fighting Knights pitching staff fanned 10 batters.
Defensive gaffes contributed to nearly half the runs scored in the series and the series finale was no different.
Paul Stortini singled through the left side to initially get on base before a hard hit ball by
Jason Matusik was snagged by the West Georgia (7-3) third baseman but the ensuing throw sailed into the outfield, allowing Stortini to cross home plate.
Pierce was solid throughout the day despite allowing base runners in each of his five innings of work. The senior righty struck out five, allowed six hits and walked one.
Ryan Lashley added an insurance run for the Blue & White in the seventh with an RBI single.
Troy Mannebach kept UWG off balance with three K's in 1.1 innings before being relieved by
Andre Colon in the seventh. With runners on second and third and one out, Colon struck out one batter and induced an inning ending line drive.
Andrew Melchor entered in the ninth and shut down West Georgia for his first career save.
