Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's baseball team provided some early March Madness, knocking-off previously undefeated and 11th-ranked Southern New Hampshire 10-7 on Wednesday afternoon. Three players recorded multiple hits for the Fighting Knights, who improve to 10-6 on the season.
A sloppy opening inning for LU, marred by three errors, allowed the Penmen (8-1) to grab an early 1-0 lead. Southern New Hampshire would score two more runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead.
Lynn responded with four-runs in the home half of the inning, getting a two run double from Ryan Lashley followed by a RBI single from Jason Matusik. The lead was short-lived, unfortunately, as SNHU scored two more in the top of the fourth.
After three scoreless innings from both sides, Lynn finally found their rhythm by scoring six runs in the seventh, all with two outs. Corey Elasik started things off getting hit by a pitch and advancing to second with his ninth stolen base of the year. Paul Stortini tied the game with a RBI single up the middle before the Penmen bullpen grew even wilder with three consecutive walks, the last of which scored a run. Matusik then added to his RBI total with a two-run single to give Lynn a 10-5 lead.
Southern New Hampshire would score two runs in the eighth before closer Andrew Melchor took the mound for AJ Falletta (2-0). Lynn's junior right-hander fanned two batters in 1.1 innings to pick up his third save.
