BOCA RATON, Fla.-- Lynn University's Baseball team prevailed in a 5-4 victory over Florida Memorial on Wednesday afternoon. Troy Mannebach recorded his first victory of the 2013 campaign while Andrew Melchor earned his seventh save of the season. Lynn improves to 25-13 on the season while Florida Memorial drops to 8-32.
The Fighting Knights and Lions each scored runs in the opening inning. Alejandro Diaz drove in Carlos Senluis and Cesar Temes with a double to put Florida Memorial ahead 2-0. The lead would be short-lived as Alex Freedman opened the bottom half of the first inning with a home run before Ryan Lashley came home off a sac-hit from Paul Stortini.
Lynn would take the lead in the third inning when Mike Gonzalez was hit by a pitch, scoring Ryan Lashley. Two innings later Sal Giardina blasted a home run scoring him and Ryan Lashley to make the score 5-2.
Florida Memorial would not give up, scoring runs in the sixth and seventh inning before the Fighting Knights bullpen shut them out in the final two innings.
The pitching staff recorded 12 strikeouts with five of the six pitchers contributing with a 'K'.
Lynn travels to Miami Shores, Fla., for a three-game Sunshine State Conference series with Barry April 12-13. First pitch of the series is set for Friday at 6pm.
