Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's women's soccer team saw its season end in a 2-0 defeat to Nova Southeastern on Tuesday night. Caitlin Shaver logged four saves, giving her 91 on the season, third-most in school history. The Fighting Knights end the year 4-11-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Senior Kirstie Schults looked to add to her team-leading goal total in the opening minutes of the first half, getting off a pair of shots in the fourth and eighth minutes. Her initial shot was blocked by the Sharks defense while her second attempt forced NSU keeper Amanda Kopale into a diving attempt.
Shaver was driven into a scary save situation as well in the early-goings as Julia Nytorp lofted a shot from the close left wing that dipped towards the right post. The sophomore keeper made a punch save to keep the game scoreless.
A 0-0 match was broken in the 56th minute of play when the Fighting Knights' defense failed to clear a loose ball towards the top left corner of the box. Nytorp collected and fired a shot through traffic, which deflected off a Lynn defender and past Shaver for the goal.
Nova Southeastern (7-6-0) tacked on an insurance goal in the 81st minute when Sara Lundberg found Tori Vives alone on the right side of the box. Vives took a touch and lipped a shot past Shaver to make it 2-0.
Shaver turned away 91 shots on the season, the most since Maegan Vondal broke the school record for saves in a season with 100 in 2004. Shaver also closed the year second in saves per game (6.50).
Lynn loses eight seniors, including Schults and Meghan Dolan, but returns 10 letterwinners. Fans can keep up with the women's soccer program in the offseason by logging on to LynnFightingKnights.com and receive updates by following @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
