Box Score Bayamon, Puerto Rico- Lynn University's women's basketball team defeated the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, 69-31, on Friday afternoon to open the 2014-15 season with a victory. This marks the fourth straight season the Fighting Knights have won their first game of the year. In Charla Nelson-James' return to the hardwood she led all scorers with 16 points while Tylar Tracy added 15 points and four steals.
Lynn started off hot with a 10-0 run to take control of the game and never turned back. The Fighting Knights shot 41.7 percent from the field in the first half and were led by Nelson-James who had ten points. The Blue & White held URP-RP to just 29.2 percent from the field. Additionally Rio Piedras had 19 turnovers in the first half in which Lynn was able to capitalize.
Tracy drained a three-point shot to open the second half. The Fighting Knights led by as many as 40 points during the contest to finish with a 38-point victory. Tracy led Lynn with nine points in the final frame and connected on 3-of-5 shots from behind the arc in the wind.
The Blue & White scored eight second chance points while holding the UPR to zero. Freshman Destiny Brown led the team with seven rebounds in her debut as a Fighting Knights and Isidora Madzarevic, Zachara Bailey and Tiffani Kerrison each added five board a piece.
