BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's fourth-ranked men's tennis team defeated No. 26 Northwood University (Mich.) on Sunday afternoon. The Fighting Knights advance to 10-0 overall and will face No. 2 West Florida on Monday, March 10. Tomas Porkop continued to dominate at the No. 3 singles spot for the Blue & White while teaming with Alessio Iannozzi for an 8-1 win as Lynn's No. 3 doubles team.
Lynn took a 2-1 lead in doubles play with wins at the second and third spots. Porkop and Iannozzi gave the Blue & White a 1-0 lead when they defeated Austin Woody nd Felipe Bastistella. Vlad Cirla and Roman Turtygin finished with a 8-3 win over NU's Salik Gilmutdinov and Konstantin Zhukov. Lynn's top duo of Danny Riggs and Paolo Volpicelli fell in a close, 8-6, battle to the Timberwolves Jean Menard and Lorenzo Montegiorgi.
Turtygin's 6-3, 6-1 win at the six spot extended the Blue & White's lead to 3-1. Riggs defeated Montegiorgi at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-0, before Volpicelli's 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles sealed the Lynn victory. Porkop then continued his singles win streak with a 6-3, 6-0, win over Glimutdinov for Lynn to lead 6-1.
No. 17 Vlad Cirla lost 6-2, 7-6 (10-5) at the top singles spot to No. 44 Menard. Ioannozi rounded finished things up with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles for Lynn's 8-1 victory.
The Fighting Knights return to the Perper Tennis Complex on Monday, March 10, when they host No. 3 West Florida at 2:00 p.m. The Argonauts ended Lynn's postseason run last season in the regional finals with a 5-4 victory over the Blue & White.
