Box Score Winter Park, Fla.- Lynn University's women's basketball team was unable to hold off a second-half surge by the No. 8 Rollins Tars on Saturday afternoon in the Warden Arena. The Fighting Knights led by ten at halftime but RC shot 65.5 percent in the second half to come back for a 80-72 win. Lynn falls to 7-11 overall and 1-8 in Sunshine State Conference action. Sharneka McCatty had a team high 19 points and nine rebounds with a pair of assists and a steal.
Lynn took its first lead of the game shortly before the first media timeout on a three-pointer by Tifani Kerrison with 14:58 on the clock. Lynn would get stuck in a three and a half minute scoring drought that ended with a jumper by Destiny Brown to trail RC 14-12. The Blue & White then put together a 13-3 run to lead 25-19 at the final media timeout of the half with 3:22 remaining. Back-to-back treys by Tylar Tracy gave Lynn a nine-point cushion with under two minutes left in the half. The Fighting Knights held on for a 37-27 halftime lead.
Shatorria Baker and McCatty paced Lynn's offense with 10 points each while McCatty had a team-high 7 rebounds. The Blue and while shot 50 percent from the field and connected on five-of-ten shots from behind the arc while forcing eight turnovers and scoring five points off turnovers.
Rollins opened the half on a 7-1 run to cut the deficit to four. Lynn held off the Tars rally until Rollins pulled head by eight, 59-51. The Fighting Knights kept it close as the clock wined down capitalizing on Rollins turnovers. A jumper just inside the arc by Baker with 5:52 put Lynn within three points.
Lynn trailed by 10 with 1:18 left in regulation, a trey by Kerrison brought the Fighting Knights within seven. With 53 seconds left Kerrison made one of two free throws to make it a two-possession game. A steal by Baker deep in the Knights zone was followed by a three-pointer from McCatty to put Lynn within three, 75-72. Five successful free throws by the Tars held off the Blue & White for an eight-point win in the home team's favor.
Kerrison had a team-high 10 points in the second frame with McCatty added nine points. Lynn shot 32.4 percent from the field in the second half while the Tars improved to shoot a game-best 65.5 percent in the second stanza connecting on 19-of-29 shots from the field. RC held a slight advantage, 20-18, in the final 20 minutes.
The Blue & White shot 39.3 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from downtown in the loss. Four Fighting Knights scored double figures with 32 points coming from Lynn's bench. The Fighting Knights fall to 1-8 in SSC play while Rollins remains atop the conference standings at 8-1.
