HOW IT HAPPENED:
- First Quarter: Charla Nelson-James controlled the opening tip, but Barry's Ines Kerin came away with the first bucket of the night. The Bucs started the game on a 14-5 run before Maddie Herr's three pointer broke the trend. Barry led by as many as 15 in the first ten minutes, taking advantage of seven Lynn turnovers. The home team carried a 24-15 advantage into the second frame.
- Second Quarter: The first three Lynn possessions of the frame resulted in three-pointers, and a second-chance effort from Nelson-James helped cut the Barry lead to three. The Bucs quickly bounced back, however, moving in front by as many as eight. Herr added two three-pointers to remain perfect on the night, and Shaunt'e Tucker turned a steal into two easy points just before the half ended. Barry went into the locker room with a 43-36 lead.
- Third Quarter: The Bucs picked up where they left off, scoring eight of the half's first 12 points. Herr and Shatorria Baker teamed up to pace the Fighting Knights in the first half, but Barry prevented both from scoring even a single time in the third quarter. Barry led 58-47 after the first three quarters.
- Fourth Quarter: Barry continued to shoot the ball well, adding 16 points in the final ten minutes. The Fighting Knights never seemed to get in a rhythm in the fourth quarter, and the Bucs came away with their first Sunshine State Conference victory of the season.
QUOTABLE:
- "The biggest thing we have focused on for the last week has been competing, and if the game was based on that, I believe it might be different. We're not making great decisions on offense, and we have to clean up some of the basketball IQ stuff. We are excited to play at home on Saturday, but our conference is one of the toughest in the country, so we have a tough one ahead of us."– Lynn head coach Julia Huddleston
STATS FROM THE GAME:
- The Fighting Knights shot 38% from the floor, while their hosts connected on 53% of their shot attempts.
- Herr tied Barry's Amra Elezovic with a game-high 17 points. Nelson-James was the only other Fighting Knight player to score in double figures.
- Lynn claimed a slight 31-30 edge in the rebounding battle, but Barry forced 22 turnovers and committed only 20. The Bucs scored 38% of their total points off Lynn turnovers.
- The two squads combined to attempt 30 three pointers.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Wednesday marked the first time this season that opponents held Tifani Kerrison under ten points, and it was only the second game this season where she did not finish as Lynn's leading scorer.
