BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's ninth-ranked men's tennis program defeated Northwood (Mich.) 8-1 at the Perper Tennis Complex on Tuesday handing the Timberwolves their first loss of the season. The Fighting Knights improve to 9-2 overall while NU is now 6-1.
The Blue & White got out to a hot start with a 3-0 advantage at doubles. Pavel Mojha teamed with Mehdi Leaalej to take down Austin Woody and Sebastian Equez, 8-5, at No. 1 singles. Daniel Riggs and Fernando Rivas won 8-2 over Konstantin Zhukov and Henrik Hellbe at the middle of the doubles lineup and Alessio Iannozzi and Paolo Volpicelli defeated Salikh Gilmutdinov and Felipe C. Bastistella 8-2 to complete the sweep.
Iannozzi won at No. 5 singles in quick sets of 6-0 over C. Bastistella while Mojha's 6-2, 6-2 win at the third spot sealed Lynn's victory. Rivas' victory of straight 6-3 sets made it a 6-0 Fighting Knights lead. Laalej defeated Zhukov 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and Riggs put together a pair of 6-2 sets over Equez for a win at the top of the lineup. Javier Anegon was the only member of Lynn's squad to lose singles in a 7-6, 6-4 decision to Tanini Kader at the No. 6 spot.
