Lacrosse Wins Big on the Road against North Greenville

Atlanta, Ga.- Lynn University's lacrosse team improved to 4-2 overall with a 16-6 victory over North Greenville on Thursday night on the road. Johnny Gavin scored four goals while three other Fighting Knights had multi-goal games. Nick Nehring made four saves in goal through three periods earning the fourth win of his career.

North Greenville scored at 9:47 in the first quarter on a goal by Drew Wassenaar to give the Crusaders their only lead of the game. Sam Turner and Austin Jerhoff scored a minute apart for a 2-1 Lynn lead that would hold the end of the first period.

Lynn went on a scoring spree in the second quarter notching six unanswered goals, four of which game on power plays. Gavin scored a pair of goals eight seconds apart to end the half with the Blue & White ahead 8-1.

Anthony Rainone scored man-up on an assist by Brian Kiel to start the second half action but North Greenville's Wassenaar made it a 9-2 game at 8:06. Gavin completed his hat trick at 6:07 on an unassisted goal for a 10-2 Lynn advantage and two minutes later Rainone scored a man-down goal extending the Fighting Knights lead to 11-2.

Kiel scored at 2:19 unassisted and Rainone put one in three seconds later on a fast break, with the assist going to defender Shaun McDonald. Gavin's fourth goal came with just over a minute to play in the third period for a 14-2 Lynn advantage.

Nehring played the first three quarters in goal for the Blue & White but a change in the fourth saw sophomore Taylor Ferrino earn some time. The Crusaders scored a pair of man up goals over the final 15 minutes but Jacob Van Leenen answered back both times unassisted for Lynn to hold a 16-4 advantage with three minutes to play. North Greenville scored back-to-back goals seconds apart by Connor Smith and Ethan Gray for a 16-6 final.

Ferrino allowed four goals but made four saves in the fifteen minute frame including an incredible foot save after being challenge one on one with North Greeville's attack. Vincent Genovesi went 7-for-11 in face-offs and Chris D'Angelo was 11-for-14 with a team-high five groundballs. Lynn was successful on 39-of-43 clear attempts and scored five goals on seven man-up opportunities.
