Lacrosse Wins First Game at Bobby Campbell Stadium in Home Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's lacrosse team christened Bobby Campbell Stadium with its first-ever lacrosse victory on Friday night. The Fighting Knights defeated Emmanuel 17-5 in their home opener improving to 2-1 overall. Anthony Rainone scored five goals in the bringing his season total to 15, becoming the all-time leading scorer in a season surpassing teammate Brian Kiel's 2014 mark of 11 goals in a season.

Tyler Briggs put Lynn on top early notching his first career goal at 9:56. Johnny Gavin added a goal at 8:14 for a 2-0 Lynn lead. Emmanuel scored at 7:17 to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. Rainone scored at 6:12 on an assist by Mark Snellman to lead 3-1 and Johnny Gavin made it a 4-1 Knights lead 23 seconds later on a pass from defender Caleb Cerf.

The second quarter started off slow but Kiel and Cerf would score six seconds apart for a 6-1 lead. The Lion's Austin Brundage scored at 2:45 to make it a 6-2 game. Kiel scored again at 1:19 and Gavin logged his second goal with 15 seconds left in the half to give the Blue & White a 8-2 advantage at halftime.

At 12:27 Emmanuel made it an 8-3 game but Lynn responded with goals by Rainone and Snellman to lead 10-3 midway through the third quarter. EC's Zachary Cao scored an unassisted goal for the Lion's fourth goal of the game. Austin Jerhoff scored on an assist from Rainone at 5:54 left in the third to lead 11-5. Cao scored his second goal of the game at 4:01 in the third quarter.

The Fighting Knights went on a scoring spree in the final 15 minutes including two goals by freshman Sam Turner and a hat trick by Rainone. Lynn's last goal of the game came with just under two minutes on an unassisted shot by Tyler Martin, his first career goal.

Nick Nehring earned the win between the pipes for the Blue & White making five saves. Taylor Ferrino came in goal in the final quarter recording three saves in 15 minutes in his season debut.

Rainone had a team-best seven points on five goals and a pair of assists. Vincent Genovesi went 10-for-14 in faceoffs and Christopher D'Angelo won 8-of-11 faceoffs. Cerf led the team with seven groundballs and Angelo Beacon-Paglia caused four turnovers.

Gavin and Rainone both had hat tricks for the third consecutive game, marking the first time two Fighting Knights have had back-to-back-to-back multi-goal games.
