Lacrosse Falls on the Road to No. 10 Tampa

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's lacrosse team lost its final road game of the regular season, 12-6, to No. 10 Tampa in Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday afternoon. The fighting Knights move to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in league play while UT improves to 12-2 and 4-0 in the SSC. Austin Jerhoff and Mark Snellman both had multi-goal games in the loss for the Blue & White.

Tampa opened the game with five goals over the first 11 minutes before Jerhoff scored an unassisted goal with 2:03 remaining in the opening frame to trail 5-1. Tampa tallied a pair of goals and led by six, 7-1, but a man-up goal by Snellman assisted by Jerhoff at 6:05 cut into the Spartans lead. Tampa responded at 5:39 with a man-up goal of its own to lead 8-2. Sophomore Brian Kiel scored unassisted with 1:37 left until halftime but UT tallied one more in the final minute to hold a 9-3 advantage at halftime.

Snellman's second goal came a minute into the third quarter when Johnny Gavin found him giving the Fighting Knights their fourth goal of the game. The Spartans responded with back-to-back goals from Matt Bilak and Conor Whipple to lead 11-4 with 9:22 to go in the third frame. Jerhoff scored unassisted with 4:44 remaining to make it an 11-5 game.

It was a silent fourth quarter as each team only scored one goal each. Jacob Van Leenen scored on Gavin's second assist of the day with 8:15 to go in regulation and Jonathan Franzese scored with 20 seconds left in regulation for a 12-6 final.

Taylor Ferrino and Nick Nehring split time in goal for the Fighting Knights with Chase Ostermann making his first career appearance in between the pipes closing out the final two minutes of the game. Lynn was successful on 16-of-18 clears and 1-for-1 on man-up opportunities. Tampa outshot Lynn 38-26 and won 14-of-22 face-offs. Dante Egan led the Fighting Knights in face-offs going 6-for-11 at the X and Tyler Briggs had a team-high four groundballs in the defeat.

Lynn returns home to Bobby Campbell Stadium for the final game of the regular season on Saturday, April 18, when the Fighting Knights host Saint Leo at 7 pm.
